Kate Flemming is an epidemiologist with a particular interest and expertise in the analysis of large health databases. Her specific research interests span pregnancy, maternity and child health, gastrointestinal diseases, particularly liver disease, and alcohol-related harm. Her primary focus is on developing work at the intersection of these fields, looking at the harms caused by alcohol consumption in pregnancy, how we can use public health policy to reduce this, and how best to identify and support children with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) and their families.

She is a member of the Independent Scientific Advisory Committee for the Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD) and a fellow of the Higher Education Academy. She teaches epidemiology, public health and medical statistics at all levels including a long-standing Faculty post on the Young Investigators' Meeting for the United European Gastroenterology society, teaching clinicians from across Europe.
