Prof Karumathil Murali is a senior nephrologist with over 20 years of experience as a consultant in the field. He was trained in Nephrology and Hypertension in the Toronto General Hospital in Canada and Westmead Hospital in NSW, Australia after completing basic medical training from Calicut in India. He was awarded a Master of Medicine degree in Clinical Epidemiology from the University of Sydney, with distinction. His special interests include acute and chronic kidney diseases, refractory hypertension, electrolyte, and acid-base disorders, and anemia related to kidney diseases. He also has extensive experience treating patients undergoing dialysis and kidney transplantation.

A/Prof Murali is the Clinical Lead for educational activities in the Department of Nephrology at Wollongong Hospital. He is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Wollongong and is actively involved in teaching medical students and junior medical officers. He is accredited by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) as an educational supervisor for basic physician trainees (BPTs) and advanced (Nephrology specialist) trainees (ATs). These roles equip him to provide the most up-to-date, and evidence-based care to patients referred to him.

Karumathil Murali is active in clinical research and his research work has been published in reputed international journals. He has also been an invited speaker to present Nephrology topics in numerous regional, national, and international forums. He is a visiting medical officer (VMO) at Wollongong Private Hospital and a senior staff specialist at Wollongong and Shellharbour public hospitals with admitting and consulting privileges at all locations.
