Dr. Karsten has an accomplished R&D expert with over 20 years of leadership experience in industry and academia, including Repertoire Immune Medicines, Pfizer, The Scripps Research Institute, GNF/Novartis, and Merck. He is broad expertise in target and drug discovery, translational and basic immunology, immuno-oncology (IO), hematology, genetics, genomics, biochemistry, structural, molecular, and chemical biology. He worked in indications IO, blood cancer, autoimmunity, transplant rejection, immunodeficiencies, and infection. His Key roles are in scientific leadership, IND delivery, and corporate development. At Pfizer, he built and aggressively progressed a portfolio of 10 IO assets to deliver 2 clinical candidates and 3 preclinical leads in 3 years. TGFbR1 inhibitor PF-06952229 is now in the clinic. He established a multi-disciplinary target identification & validation effort. He published in Science, Nature, Nature Immunology, and other premier journals. Unveiled symmetric signaling by the signaling hub and proto-oncogene PI3K and inositoltrisphosphate kinases as a broadly important signaling paradigm that has led to drug discovery efforts.
