Dr. Haden is President and CEO of AAL. Since founding in 2005, Dr. Haden and AAL has worked with more than 125 U.S. and international higher education institutions and associations through its professional development programs and consulting services. Dr. Haden's consultation and professional development activities have included faculty and administrative leaders from dentistry, pharmacy, veterinary medicine, allied health, and medicine. His areas of expertise include leadership development, organizational change, strategic planning, and curriculum development. Previously, he served as Associate Executive Director and Director of the Center for Educational Policy and Research at the American Dental Education Association (ADEA). For 15 years, he directed the ADEA Leadership Institute, a premier leadership development program in health professions education.
He oversees a variety of professional development activities at AAL, including the Institute for Teaching and Learning, the Chairs and Academic Administrators Management Program, and various other leadership initiatives in collaboration with the American Dental Education Association, the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine, the Dental Trade Alliance, and other associations.
He is currently managing the creation of an online certificate program for dental faculty, in an AAL partnership with the University of Pennsylvania, to be launched in 2018. Most recently, Dr. Haden directs a new interprofessional leadership program for deans and other senior administrators through the Interprofessional Education Collaborative, a group of 20 associations in health professions education representing well over 1,000 programs and institutions.
Dr. Haden regularly presents to organizations on issues and trends in higher education, health professions education, and policy-related matters in higher education. Dr. Haden has authored or coauthored more than 80 articles and monographs in educational policy. He is the author, along with AAL Fellow Rob Jenkins, of The 9 Virtues of Exceptional Leaders: Unlocking Your Leadership Potential (Deeds, 2015). Dr. Haden is a Fellow (Hon.) of the American College of Dentists and a Fellow of the Center for the Study of the Great Ideas. In March, Dr. Haden was honored by the ADEAGies Foundation as the 2017 recipient of the Gies Award for Achievement-Public or Private Partner.
