Karen Secore MS, APRN, CNRN

Dr. Karen Secore, MS APRN is currently a Nurse Practitioner and Instructor of Medicine at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Epilepsy Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire. She assisted in the development of the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Epilepsy Center since its inception in 1991 and developed the educational materials for nursing staff and patients participating in the program as well as policies and procedures of the inpatient epilepsy monitoring unit. She has served on committees with the American Epilepsy Society regarding safety in the Epilepsy Monitoring Units and the Practice Committee. She has participated in multiple research studies and publications in the field of epilepsy and particularly in areas such as status epilepticus, ictal SPECT, hypnosis and a variety of clinical trials.

Dr. Karen received the Nursing Spectrum Nurse Excellence Award in 2005 as a regional winner for Advancing the Profession. She also received the Deborah Miller Advanced Practice Award in 2009 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Epilepsy Center for her work in the epilepsy program.

She is part of the team at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth who are developing HOBSCOTCH (HOme Based Self-management & COgnitive Training CHanges lives), a program that uses self-management strategies and cognitive training on a commercially available gaming console (BrainAge® , Nintendo, Inc. ) to improve subjective and objective memory function in patients in epilepsy. At the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth there is great interest in public health research and Dr. Jobst works closely together with The Dartmouth Institute and the Prevention Research Center at Dartmouth to implement programs such a HOBSCOTCH to a broad rural patient population.
