Karen Mccreesh PhD, MSc, BSc, PgC

Dr. Karen McCreesh is a Physiotherapist with research interests in the area of musculoskeletal disorders and pain, and specific expertise in shoulder pain and tendon disorders. As a qualified sonographer, she also undertakes research in the area of musculoskeletal ultrasound imaging. Karen supervises 5 Ph.D. students on the themes of shoulder pain and musculoskeletal physiotherapy. She is the Chair of the Irish Shoulder and Elbow Rehabilitation Society and on the Education Committee of the European Society of Shoulder and Elbow Rehabilitation. She is committed to knowledge transfer to clinicians and the public and has developed a website to support and disseminate evidence-based practice in the physiotherapy management of shoulder pain. She is a collaborator in the Ageing Research Centre at the HRI.

Current projects include: Using stakeholder perspectives to design knowledge transfer activities in shoulder pain; Examining therapeutic alliance in musculoskeletal physiotherapy; Effects of training load on shoulder injury in swimmers; Effectiveness of group versus individual physiotherapy for rotator cuff disorders; Examining the role of exercise for people with massive rotator cuff tears.
