Dr. Karen received her Bachelor of Nursing in 1995
and has worked predominately in emergency
departments since this time. Karen is currently working
as an academic in the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Flinders University, South Australia. Karen’s
research and teaching interests focus predominately
on emergency nursing and disaster healthcare at a
postgraduate level. Karen is a strong advocate for
emergency nurses and is actively engaged with the
College of Emergency Nursing Australasia (CENA) as a Fellow and company director. Karen is passionate about the role nurses play in the disaster continuum and is currently undertaking a PhD exploring the experiences of nurses who have worked in the emergency department during a disaster.
