Dr. Karen D Ersche is an Associate Professor at the University of Cambridge, a member of the Behavioural and Clinical Neuroscience Institute, and an Official Fellow at Clare Hall College in Cambridge. She began her career by studying towards a Master’s level in Psychology at the University of Konstanz, with a specialization in Clinical Neuropsychology. Since then she has also attained an MSc from the University of Exeter, followed by a PhD from the University of Cambridge. Her interest and expertise lie in the field of human drug addiction, within which she carried out research as a Betty Behrens Fellow prior to being appointed to a lectureship at the University of Cambridge in 2014. She favours a holistic approach in her research, combining a variety of different approaches and interdisciplinary collaborations in order to better assess a broad range of effects of drug abuse on individuals’ health and wellbeing. Ultimately, her goal is to enhance progress towards recovery for those affected by drug addiction by using her research to develop more effective treatments and reduce the widespread stigma attached to the disorder.
