Karen L. Comisi DDS, MAGD, C DA, RDA, FADAA

Karen L. Comisi, CDA, RDA, and FADAA, began serving on DANB’s Board of Directors in April 2015. Ms. Comisi, of Mount Pleasant, SC, has been a dental assistant for over 30 years and is the Co-Founder and Chief Financial Officer of Sleep Focused Solutions, Inc. Previously, she served in multiple roles, including CFO, at Dental Care with a Difference, PC, which she co-founded. She also works as a speaker and consultant with her husband, John Comisi, D.D.S., to help dental teams work effectively and keep up with the latest in the dental field. Ms. Comisi has published and lectured on topics such as infection control, OSHA requirements, office systems, and restorative functions for dental assistants.

In 2011, Ms. Comisi was appointed as the dental assistant on the New York State Board for Dentistry (NYSBD). There, she served as chair of the Reference Manual Committee and the Committee on Dental Assistant Law, Rules, and Regulations; she also served as a member of the Dental License Health Project, Allowable Procedures, and Collaborative Hygiene committees.

Before her work with NYSBD, Ms. Comisi was a founding member of the Southern Tier Dental Assistant Society, where she served as treasurer from 2008-2011. She is also a member of the American Academy for Oral Systemic Health, American Association of Dental Boards, American Association of Dental Office Management, American Dental Assistants Association (ADAA), and Organization for Safety, Asepsis and Prevention. In 2014, she earned her Fellowship in ADAA (FADAA); she has held DANB certification and New York state licensure since 1998.
