Dr. Karen Bernstein is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Director of the Adolescent Weight Management Program in the Department of Pediatrics. Dr. Bernstein is an Adolescent medicine clinician and teacher with special interests in Adolescent Weight Management (including obesity and eating disorders), Adolescent Reproductive Health and Adolescent Primary Care. She has dedicated clinics at UIC in these areas. She completed Medical school at Rush Medical College and went on to do her Pediatrics Residency at the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, in Milwaukee.
She then completed an Adolescent Medicine Fellowship at The Children’s National Medical Center in Washington DC. Dr. Bernstein also received an MPH from George Washington University. Dr. Bernstein’s research interests include; obesity and eating disorders, teen depression/mental health, adolescent risk-taking behaviors, spirituality among teens, and health resource utilization. She is also very involved and passionate about medical education.
