Mr Mahawar has been a consultant surgeon at one of the busiest bariatric units in the UK at Sunderland since April 2011. Prior to that he trained in bariatric surgery for two and a half years as a senior registrar in the North East as part of his six year training within Northern Deanery.
Before this, he qualified from Calcutta Medical College in India in 1996 with multiple University Honours and Medals. Subsequently he obtained his Basic and Higher Surgical Training (at the internationally renowned Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research in Chandigarh) in India from 1998 – 2002 before coming over to the United Kingdom.
Mr Mahawar is one of the highest volume bariatric surgeons in the UK according to the National Bariatric Surgery Registry data. His complication and reoperation rates have to be one of the best in the country and he has not had any bariatric surgery related leak or mortality till date.
