Jurgen Denecke is a Professor at the University of Leeds. Born and educated in Belgium, He moved to Sweden in 1991 and later to the UK in 1994. He speaks German, Dutch, French, English, Portuguese, Spanish, and a little Swedish, and looks forward to learning more languages. He enjoys teaching, interested in pure and applied research, loves unexpected results, and tries to resist peer pressure whenever it makes sense. When there is time, and when his team allows him, He works at the bench and does some of the experiments himself, mostly to explore some unexpected avenues of our research and usually related to the functioning of a gene product within the context of a viable cell. His hobbies include property development (kitchen, conservatories, greenhouses), the regular maintenance of an allotment with vegetables, reading books, cooking and baking, martial arts, building windsurf boards (slalom and wave), and of course windsurfing.
