Dr. Juliet Sekandi is a physician, public health, and global health expert in the fields of Tuberculosis, HIV, health service research, and maternal health. She is an associate professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics and works full-time at the Global Health Institute, both in the College of Public Health at the University of Georgia.
Dr. Sekandi’s research work has mainly focused on active cases finding undiagnosed tuberculosis and HIV-infected persons in urban communities in Uganda. The underlying premise of her work is that early detection of infectious cases of TB will shorten the delays in seeking effective treatment and thus interrupt transmission. Her current research interests have expanded to the field of mobile health (mHealth) which focuses on the use of mobile technology to bridge gaps in health service delivery in developing countries.
She holds degrees in Medicine and Surgery from Mbarara University of Science and Technology in Uganda, a Master of Science from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, and a Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) from the University of Georgia.
