Julie Elizabeth Miller-cribbs PhD, MSW

Julie joined the OU faculty in 2006 as the Assistant Director in Tulsa and is currently serving as the Oklahoma Medicaid Endowed Professor in Mental Health and the Director of the Anne and Henry Zarrow School of Social Work. She is also the director of Social Simulation at OU-Tulsa and a Research Associate at the OU School of Community Medicine where she spends time developing social simulation training for social workers, medical students, and other health professionals as well as a number of community organizations and professionals.

Julie has a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Colorado College, a master’s degree in social work from the University of Chicago, and received her Ph.D. from Washington University George Warren Brown School of Social Work. Prior to her academic career, she worked for seven years as an Emergency Room Social Worker at a Level-One trauma facility and with urban families and youth at social service agencies in Chicago and St. Louis.

Julie's current research amplifies factors pertaining to vulnerability, strengths, and functioning in the areas of diversity, health, and community life. She is particularly interested in health disparities and access to health care and improving social work education in the state of Oklahoma.  Her publications have appeared in various journals, she has authored educational material utilized in textbooks and course outlines related to cultural diversity, and she is the author of three books. She has presented her research at over 70 national and international conferences. She teaches graduate and undergraduate students in social work, as well as a wide array of students in the health professions. She has received awards for her teaching and research, served as chair or member on numerous dissertation committees, and mentored medical and nursing students and graduate research assistants over the course of her career.
