Dr Julie Harris obtained a BSc and PhD in Medical Science (specifically in the field of neuroscience) from the University of Tasmania. Dr Harris is also a molecular biologist and biochemist and is the Manager of Technical Services that provides teaching support in the School of Medicine. She is also involved in research with the Wicking Dementia Research and Education Centre.

Dr Harris is involved in teaching Biochemistry and Molecular Biology to second and third year students. Teaching units include Biochemistry A (CBA221), Biochemistry: Metabolism and Nutrition (CBA260), Molecular Biology in Health and Disease (CBA265), Techniques in Molecular Biology and Protein Biochemistry (CBA342) and Research Project in Health and Disease (CBA344).
