Dr Mangino’s clinical, research and educational interests include prevention of healthcare-associated infections through infection control and antibiotic stewardship and compliance with evidence-based medicine to decrease the risk of acquiring an infection. She is actively working to improve healthcare worker compliance with hand hygiene (90%), and environmental cleaning via ultraviolet disinfection to minimize cross transmission risk. She helped improve influenza vaccination for staff to over 90% and is collaborating with stakeholders to decrease the risk of surgical site infections, C. difficile and CLABSIs. She authored the OSUHS Clinical Practice Guideline for Prevention of Surgical Site Infections, providing grids for the operating room staff on appropriate antibiotics, dose, timing and re-dosing.

She is a fellow in the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA) and a reviewer for Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology, among other journals. She remains active in disaster preparedness – OSUWMC is now approved as an Ebola Viral Disease Assessment Center. She is a member of "Best Doctors in America" since 2005-2006 and enjoys teaching fellows and patient care.
