Dr. Julie Friedman is a clinical health psychologist whose specialties include psychological therapies for Binge Eating Disorder, Bulimia Nervosa, Night Eating Syndrome, and Other Specified Feeding and Eating Disorders, post-bariatric surgery eating disorders and psychological care, the treatment of traumatic stress including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Complex PTSD, sleep disorders, and the treatment of “compulsive behaviors” including compulsive sexual behaviors.
She has worked across many different settings from private practice and academic medicine settings to higher levels of care including residential, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient programming. Most recently, Dr. Friedman served for 9 years as the National Senior Director, Binge Eating Treatment and Recovery Program, at Eating Recovery Center/Insight Behavioral Health Centers. In that role, Dr. Friedman supervised teams in 7 states and led the Chicago residential, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient teams and opened the first residential treatment center devoted solely to the treatment of Binge Eating Disorder in the United States. Dr Friedman also led the efforts to integrate exposure-based trauma treatment into higher levels of care at ERC/Insight by starting to incorporate Written Exposure Therapy and Prolonged Exposure therapies alongside residential eating disorders treatment.
