Dr Jarman studied medicine at Cambridge University (MB BS, MA), St Mary’s Hospital at Imperial College London, and Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA. He undertook specialist fellowship training in interventional cardiac electrophysiology and complex pacing at several leading London teaching hospitals. He is a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) and has certification examinations in both Invasive Cardiac Electrophysiology and Cardiac Pacing & ICDs from the European Heart Rhythm Association.

During his post-graduate doctorate of medicine (MD) at the National Heart & Lung Institute he developed novel techniques for ablation of atrial fibrillation using noncontact mapping. He is a winner or finalist of multiple prizes including the Imperial College Innovator of the Year, British Cardiovascular Society Young Investigator of the Year, and Royal Society of Medicine’s Young Trainee of the Year. He also won the Royal Society of Medicine’s President’s Medal, and European Cardiac Arrhythmia Society’s Lucienne Dreyfus Award.

He is currently Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer in Clinical Cardiology at the National Heart & Lung Institute, Imperial College London, regularly teaching advanced interventional techniques to visiting foreign fellows and consultants. He has on-going research programmes studying the factors determining the outcome of AF ablation, assessing the latest interventional technologies such as contact force sensing catheters to improve the safety of AF ablation, and totally subcutaneous defibrillators.
