Judith Loon MD, PhD

Dr. Judith Van Loon, MD, Ph.D. is an Radiation Oncologist in Maastro Clinic. She completed her Doctor of Medicine at Maastricht University. She has specialized in the treatment of breast cancer and lung cancer and in palliative treatments, treatments when a cure is no longer possible. Within these areas, she is responsible for team meetings in various hospitals in the region.

In addition to direct patient care, she is also active in scientific research in the field of breast and lung cancer. She focuses on patient-oriented research, research of which the results can be quickly applied in daily practice. In 2010 she obtained her Ph.D. in the field of imaging lung tumors before, during, and after radiation. After this, she focused on conducting cost-effectiveness research. For this, she has followed various internships and courses, mainly in the United Kingdom. she is also developing decision aids. These are instruments that help the individual patient to select the best treatment. In addition to the chances of survival, the chance of side effects and the influence on the quality of life of treatment is of great importance.

She spends part of my working time at MAASTRO Clinic training doctors in training to become radiotherapists and supervising medical students in electives in oncology. She is active in the regional working groups for lung cancer and breast cancer, and the national platform for radiotherapy for breast cancer and for radiotherapy for the elderly.
