Dr. Juan Carlos Vazquez-Garcia is specialty in Pulmonology. In 1993 he received the first place diploma as the best resident of the generation. He received a master's degree in Medical Sciences with honors in September 1996 and in June 1998 the UNAM awarded him the Alfonso Caso medal for having obtained the highest average in master's degrees. Two-year stay (Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine Fellowship) at the University of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. In 1993 he obtains the Certificate of the National Council of Pulmonology.

He has been a professor of undergraduate and postgraduate medicine (Faculty of Medicine of the UNAM); tutor and professor of the Master of Medical Sciences at UNAM (September 27, 2000), Associate Professor (2007-2008), and Professor (since 2008) of the Pneumology Specialty (INER-UNAM).

He is a member of the National System of Researchers since 2001 (Level I). He is the author and/or co-author of 47 articles in national and foreign journals, 19 book chapters, three medical manuals, and one edited book. In addition, he has lectured in 17 countries, including congresses of the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP), the Spanish Society of Pulmonology and Thoracic Surgery (SEPAR), and the Latin American Thoracic Association (ALAT).

An active member of the Mexican Society of Pneumology and Thoracic Surgery since 1992, he has worked actively and uninterruptedly in the last 17 congresses since 1999; particularly as head of the sleep sections (2001-2007), respiratory physiology (2008-2010), and as secretary of the board of directors April 2009-April 2011. He was elected as vice president (April 2013-April 2015) and President (April 2015-2017) of the Society.

At the National Institute of Respiratory Diseases Ismael Cosío Villegas has served as Associate Physician (1993-1998), Head of the Department of Respiratory Physiology (1998-2008), Deputy Director of Teaching (March 20, 2009 – July 31, 2013) and As of August 1, 2013, he is appointed Director of Education.
