Joshua S. Barclay, MD, is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of General, Geriatric, and Palliative Medicine at the University of Virginia School of Medicine and a hospice and palliative medicine physician at UVA Health. He specializes in providing compassionate, patient-centered care for adults with serious and life-limiting illnesses, helping patients and their families navigate complex medical decisions while improving quality of life through symptom management and supportive care.
Dr. Barclay earned his medical degree from the University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center, completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Virginia Medical Center, and pursued fellowship training in Hospice and Palliative Medicine at Duke University Medical Center. He is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Hospice and Palliative Medicine. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Barclay serves as Director of the Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship Program at UVA, where he is dedicated to educating the next generation of palliative care specialists. His commitment to excellence in patient care, medical education, and interdisciplinary collaboration has earned him recognition for outstanding bedside manner and leadership in the field of palliative medicine.
