Joseph is a molecular parasitologist trained in microbiology, recombinant DNA technology, protein biochemistry, fundamental cell biology, and technical scientific writing and editing. As a postdoctoral researcher, he primarily studies the developmental regulation of mitochondrial RNA editing in the African parasite, Trypanosoma brucei, which causes human African trypanosomiasis (also known as African sleeping sickness). His dissertation research focused on the protein complexes necessary for mitochondrial protein import and complex stability of the essential protein TbTim17 in Trypanosoma brucei. Joseph has experience in teaching, tutoring, research grant preparation, manuscript preparation and editing, and training junior lab personnel.
