Joseph Shatzel MD

Dr. Joseph James Shatzel, MD, specializes in caring for adults with clotting and bleeding disorders and other hematologic diseases. He is an avid academic, publishing numerous research articles and book chapters on hematology. He has been awarded multiple teaching awards by the Department of Medicine and actively mentors multiple trainees. He is also active in the laboratory focusing on coagulation, platelet disorders, and the development of novel anticoagulants. He has a joint appointment in the biomedical engineering department where he focuses on developing innovative ways to offer anticoagulation and antiplatelet therapy.

Dr. Shatzel received his Doctor of Medicine from the University at Buffalo, School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. He obtained American Board Certifications in Internal Medicine, Hematology and Oncology.
