Joseph F. Drazkowski MD

Joseph F. Drazkowski, MD, is a Professor of Neurology and Consultant in the Division of Epilepsy at Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, Arizona. A nationally recognized epileptologist, he specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy and seizure disorders, with particular expertise in epilepsy surgery, clinical neurophysiology, and improving quality of life for individuals living with epilepsy.

Dr. Drazkowski earned his medical degree from the University of Arizona and completed his neurology residency, chief residency, and fellowship training in Epilepsy and Neurophysiology at the Barrow Neurological Institute. He is board-certified in Neurology, Clinical Neurophysiology, and Epilepsy, and has dedicated his career to advancing patient care, education, and research in seizure disorders.

His research focuses on social determinants of health and quality-of-life issues affecting people with epilepsy, including driving safety, seizure management, epilepsy surgery outcomes, complementary therapies, and emerging device-based treatments. He has led and participated in numerous clinical studies aimed at improving patient safety, independence, and long-term outcomes for individuals with epilepsy.

A distinguished educator and academic leader, Dr. Drazkowski previously served as the George M. and Kristen L. Lund Associate Dean of Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine. Throughout his career, he has received multiple teaching and faculty excellence awards, including Educator of the Year and Teacher of the Year honors. He is an active member and leader within major professional organizations such as the American Epilepsy Society and the American Academy of Neurology.
