Professor Pomar studied in Mallorca, he then moved to the University of Navarra in Pamplona, where he obtained a M.D. degree in 1972. In 1969 he published his first experimental paper on the pharmacological properties of a new drug: the LB 46, now popularised as propranolol. Later in 1987 he got the position of Professor of the University of Barcelona and has been running since then the Cardiovascular Unit and coordinating the studies of Cardiovascular Medicine. In 1999 he got the European Board of Cardiothoracic Surgery. At the present time he is Senior Consultant Cardiovascular Surgery at the Hospital Clinic and Professor of Surgery at the University of Barcelona Medical School; he is also Director and conducts all scientific aspects of the Cardiovascular Tissue Bank at the same institution (BST) and the Cardiothoracic Transplantation Program of the Hospital. He is currently President of the Catalonian Committee for CV Tissue Transplants. He is one of the co-directors of the European Master of Valve Repair which has more than fifteen years’ experience and close to 2500 surgeons trained. He has published more than 200 peer reviewed articles and presented more than 600 papers and lectures in the most prestigious meetings all over the world. Prof. Pomar is currently Past President of the European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery after being Treasurer and Chairman of the Adult Cardiac Domain and member of the Council for more than 12 years. Is currently the Chairman of the International Cooperation Committee of EACTS.
