Jose Francisco Navarro Humanes holds a degree (1986) and a PhD (1990) in Psychology from the University of Malaga, where he began teaching in the area of Psychobiology as a full-time Associate Professor in December 1986. In 1990, he founded the Experimental Psychopharmacology research group, funded by the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Enterprise of the Andalusian Regional Government (CTS-195), where he has trained a dozen doctors over the years. In 1992, he obtained a position as a Full Professor, and since 2009, he has been a Professor of Psychobiology at the University of Malaga.

Jose's main field of research is psychopharmacology, having developed his work mainly in the field of neuropsychopharmacology of aggression, sleep, and drug addiction (MDMA, GHB, dual pathology, etc.). He has published 223 articles in indexed scientific journals, as well as several books and monographs. He has presented 228 papers/communications at conferences. He has also been an external reviewer for more than fifty scientific journals and serves on the Editorial Board of several journals indexed in the Journal of Citation Reports (ISI) and other databases.
