Dr. Jose Gutierrez is a clinical scientist who participates in inpatient and outpatient clinical and educational activities. He holds a Doctor of Medicine degree from Universidad de Guadalajara in Mexico and a Master of Public Health degree with a major in Biostatistics from Florida International University. He completed his Neurology training at the University of Miami and a two-year fellowship in Vascular Neurology at Columbia.

Dr. Gutierrez's main research interest is brain arterial remodeling in the context of atherosclerosis and aging, and how these changes may alter the risk of stroke and dementia in certain populations. He has published more than 100 peer-reviewed articles, 12 book chapters, and 50 poster and oral presentations at national and international meetings. He has also received grants from the American Heart Association, the Campbell Foundation, and the National Institute of Health. His research goal is to find novel disease pathways that may be modifiable and to reduce the societal burden of cerebrovascular disease.
