Jose Couceiro

Jose Couceiro held the position of Professor and Chairman of the Orthopaedic and Traumatology Service at the Hospital Clínico-Universitario (SERGAS) and Santiago de Compostela University in Spain. He was also Founder and Director of the Orthopaedic Institute and the Skeletal-Muscle Tissue Bank of Santiago de Compostela. After graduating from medical school in 1964, Prof. Couceiro followed post-graduate courses at the Santa Cruz and San Pablo Hospital in Barcelona, Spain, and at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Center at Oxford University, UK. After that, he specialized in orthopaedic and traumatology surgery as well as in Work Medicine at the Barcelona University.

He obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Health from the Professional School of Barcelona and a PhD in Medicine and Surgery from the Santiago de Compostela University. In his professional career, he worked as Chairman of the Orthopaedic and Traumatology Services of the following hospitals: Hospital La Cruz Roja (Madrid), Hospital “12 de Octubre” (Madrid), Hospital “A. Marcide” (Ferrol), Hospital Clínico Universitario de Santiago de Compostela. Prof. Couceiro has authored and co-authored a large number of publications and is regularly solicited as a lecturer at medical conferences.
