Jose Alfon is the VP for Research and Development at Ability Pharmaceuticals, a company specialized in oncology. His main role has been related to all aspects of the drug candidates, from discovery to Phase II clinical trials. At Ability Pharma we are developing NCEs with a novel MoA, and our most advanced compound is currently in Phase II clinical trials for pancreatic, lung, and endometrial cancer. Before joining this Company, Dr. Alfón worked at J. Uriach y Cia and its spin-off Palau Pharma. There, he led projects in the Discovery Department of drugs working on different targets. For an additional period of four years (2007-2010), he led a Drug Development program, all the way from preclinical to Phase II Clinical Trials.
He has broad experience with several pharmacological classes, such as COX-2 inhibitors, integrins inhibitors, statins, histamine H4, and others. His main therapeutic areas of specialty are oncology, cardiovascular and allergic respiratory diseases. He has a background in Pharmacy. He got both his Bachelor in Pharmacy (1989) and Master in Pharmaceutical Sciences (1991) at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (Israel) working on the impact of cancer and antineoplastic treatment on pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of drugs acting on the CNS. In 1998 he obtained his Ph.D in Pharmacology at the University of Barcelona, working on the impact of statins on atherosclerosis and thrombosis.
