Jorge Delva PhD, BSW, MSW

Dr. Jorge Delva is the dean of the School of Social Work and director and Paul Farmer Professor at the Center for Innovation in Social Work and Health at Boston University. He is also the director of the Community Engagement Program of the University of Michigan Institute for Clinical and Health Research, a National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded Center for Translational Research. He is also a faculty associate of the Latina/o Studies program in the Department of American Culture. Prior to these appointments, he was associate dean for research and also founding co-director of the School of Social Work Curtis Research and Training Center. With funding from numerous sources such as the NIH, Swedish Biomedical Foundation, and Organization of American States, among others, he has dedicated his academic career to understanding and reducing health disparities with a particular focus on substance-using behaviors and the mental health of racial and ethnic minorities in the United States and disadvantaged populations in other countries. His work spans methodological approaches ranging from the application of state of the art statistical analysis to analyze large datasets to conducting community-based participatory research using mixed-methods approaches.
