Jordi Rello is Chief of the Critical Care Department at the Vall d’Hebron University Hospital in Barcelona, Spain, Director of the Clinical Research & Innovation in Pneumonia and Sepsis Group at Vall d’Hebron Research Institute, and Associate Professor of Medicine at the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona. He earned his Doctor of Medicine with Honors and his PhD on Infectious Diseases at the University of Barcelona, Spain, followed by a residence and fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care at the Hospital de Sant Pau in Barcelona, Spain.
Following his specialization as intensivist in Barcelona, he received additional training on clinical epidemiology at Harvard Medical School. Early in 1994 and 1995 he was awarded the Young Investigator Award of the American College of Chest Physicians for his series of studies on risk factors for specific pathogens in ventilator-associated pneumonia. In the past he has been Director of Intensive Care and Professor of Medicine at Tarragona University Hospital.
