Dr. Jordan Swanson is a craniofacial and pediatric plastic surgeon and holds the Linton Whitaker Endowed Chair of Craniofacial Surgery at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and the University of Pennsylvania. He specializes clinically in cleft lip and palate repair, cranial vault and facial reconstruction, craniomaxillofacial distraction osteogenesis, rhinoplasty, otoplasty, orthognathic and maxillo-mandibular procedures, and microsurgery in children and adults.

His research team works to refine new technology and techniques of bone distraction, novel methods for noninvasively measuring intracranial pressure, technology-driven simulation tools, and better identify socioeconomic disparities in the origins and outcomes of cleft and craniofacial conditions and interventions to potentially mitigate them. Prior to his current appointment in Philadelphia, he lived and worked in Nicaragua where he helped develop a comprehensive cleft center and rural surgical outreach programs in conjunction with the Ministry of Health and Operation Smile. He currently works with several cleft teams in lower resource settings to advance surgical and comprehensive care, including programs in orthognathic surgery, and edited the recently-published Global Cleft Care in Low-Resource Settings.
