Professor Jordan Raff was studied Biochemistry at the University of Bristol (BSc, 1986), followed by a Ph.D. in the Biochemistry Department, Imperial College, London (1989). Here Jordan started to work on the cell cycle and centrosomes using the fruitfly Drosophila as a model system. Jordan moved to the Department of Biophysics and Biochemistry at the University of California, San Francisco (1990), developing live-cell imaging and biochemical methods, still focused on centrosomes in Drosophila. Jordan established Jordan's own group as a Wellcome Senior Research Fellow at the Gurdon Institute in Cambridge (1994), before becoming the César Milstein Chair of Cancer Biology at The Dunn School of Pathology, and Lincoln College, in (2009). We still study centrosomes and the cell cycle in flies.
