Jonathan completed his pharmacy degree at Sunderland and has post graduate qualifications from London and Liverpool Universities as well as the Institute for Learning and Development. He began his career as a hospital pharmacist in London before joining the National Prescribing Centre in 1996. Working on MeReC publications and then developing an educational network/eLearning platform for evidence-based therapeutics gave him a passion for understanding how clinicians make prescribing decisions. Now part of NICE, he oversees outputs from the NICE Medicines and Prescribing Programme such as evidence summaries on new medicines and unlicensed and off-label medicines as well as providing NHS access to the BNF. Since April 2014 he also works at the Keele Centre for Medicines Optimisation developing innovative ways of supporting localities to deliver their demanding work programmes as well as pursuing his research interests in evidence-informed decision making and clinical reasoning. He has published several papers and is an active part of an international collaboration on evidence-informed decision making. This all means he has less time than he would like to enjoy the more important aspects of his life, such as his gorgeous family and his misplaced (and largely unrewarded) loyalty to Newcastle United FC.
