Jonathan Fisher, MD, is an expert in liver, kidney, and pancreas transplantation surgery. In addition, he provides expert surgical treatment for both cancers and benign diseases of the pancreas, liver, gallbladder, bile duct, and spleen, as well as complex abdominal problems.

Dr. Fisher is the surgical director of the pancreas transplantation program at the Scripps Center for Organ Transplantation. His active clinical research includes clinical trials using new immunosuppressive drug regimens in liver, pancreas, and kidney transplants. He has also published widely in transplantation, from peer-reviewed journal articles on new surgical techniques, to review chapters on kidney and pancreas transplantation.

He is a member of numerous societies including the American College of Surgeons, the American Society of Transplant Surgeons, the International Pancreas and Islet Transplant Association, and the American and International Liver Transplant Societies. He has served on United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) national committees for kidney transplantation, pancreas transplantation, and organ allocation, as well as local organ procurement organization committees. He is also chairman of one of the quality review committees at Scripps Green Hospital, as well as a member of its pharmacy and therapeutics committee.

Dr. Fisher takes a holistic approach to patient care and seeks to apply integrative medicine to the care of transplant and complex surgical patients. He also firmly believes all patient care must be placed in the context of the goals of each individual patient and that a strong patient-physician relationship is required to provide the best care.
