Dr. Swanson is a pediatric radiologist at Seattle Children's Hospital and a UW assistant professor of radiology. In addition to general pediatric radiology, he is also an expert in pediatric thoracic imaging.

He conducts research on improving pediatric thoracic imaging, applying low-dose CT techniques to meet specialty-specific imaging needs and developing strategies to train midwives in third-world countries to efficiently and accurately use limited obstetric ultrasound to improve pregnancy outcomes.

Dr. Swanson earned his bachelor's degree from Duke University and his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Medicine. After completing his internship at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle, WA, he came to University of Washington as a resident in radiology and stayed to complete his fellowship in pediatric radiology.

Dr. Swanson has been on faculty as a pediatric radiologist for the last 5 years. He remains active in residency education as the deputy program director of the diagnostic radiology residency at UW. He also is leads the diagnostic imaging section at Seattle Children's Hospital, working with radiologists and technologists to aim for lowering dose without lowering the diagnostic accuracy of our imaging.

Dr. Swanson is board certified in diagnostic radiology with a subspecialty certification in pediatric radiology.
