Dr Jonathan Hill qualified from Edinburgh University Medical School in 1992 following pre clinical training at Cambridge University. He trained in cardiology at The London Chest and St Bartholomew’s Hospitals.

In 1999 he was awarded the first National Heart Lung and Blood Institute Bench to Bedside award and trained in basic science and interventional research within the Cardiovascular Branch of the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda.

He completed his interventional cardiology training at the London Chest Hospital. In 2005 he was appointed, as Clinical Senior Lecturer and Consultant Cardiologist at King’s College London. He continues with his research programme relating to stem and progenitor cells in cardiovascular disease and is a practising interventional cardiologist with a special interest in acute myocardial infarction and new biological therapy.

Dr Hill’s thesis work at National Institutes of Health related to the development of novel assays for measuring endothelial progenitor cells and the use of magnetic resonance imaging for tracking the engraftment and trafficking of stem and progenitor cells in acute myocardial infarction.

He has published a number of manuscripts in this field in high impact journals including New England Journal of Medicine, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Circulation, Circulation Research and Blood. More recently he has published on the use of cytokine mobilization in no option patients with chronic myocardial ischaemia.

He is currently the co-principal investigator of a multi-centre study using selected bone marrow stem cells in patients with large myocardial infarction.
