Jon Karlsson MD, PhD

Dr. Jon Karlsson is Professor of Orthopedics and Sports Traumatology at Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg. He is also a chief physician at the Orthopedist, Sahlgrenska University Hospital, Gothenburg. He has been chairman of Idrottsmedicin Vast (IMVast) and the Swedish Sports Medicine Association (now the Swedish Association for Physical Activity and Sports Medicine) and has been a board member of the Center for Sports Research (CIF) and a member of CIF's Scientific Council for almost 20 years.

He has written over 400 scientific articles and over 40 books in orthopedics and sports traumatology. He has been the editor-in-chief of the scientific journal Knee Surgery Storts Traumatology Arthroscopy since 2008. Dr. Jon has played basketball in his youth, but he has above all been the competition doctor at a long series of events, such as the European Championships and the World Cup in athletics, and the European Championships in football. He was an Olympic doctor in 1992 and has been a team doctor for the IFK Gothenburg football team since 1984.
