In addition to performing general head and neck surgery, she has expertise in minimally invasive techniques for salivary stones and obstructions using ultrasound and sialendoscopy (in which a tiny endoscope accesses the salivary glands). She also performs surgeries for ear disorders, such as repair of eardrum perforations, removal of cholesteatomas (abnormal growths in the middle ear) and implantation of hearing devices.

Chang's research focuses on hearing loss and its relationship with bone diseases. She also studies outcomes and improvements for therapy of salivary gland stones and obstructions.

Chang graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with bachelor's and master's degrees in electrical engineering and computer science. She earned her medical degree and completed her residency in otolaryngology – head and neck surgery at UCSF.
