Joji Benjamin Kuramatsu, born in Munich, studied medicine at the Friedrich-Alexander University in Erlangen-Nuremberg and at Tsukuba University in Japan, as well as at one of the most renowned American medical faculties, Washington University in St. Louis. In addition to his license to practice medicine in Germany, he has also completed American exams, is currently in charge of the local intensive care unit of the neurological clinic as a senior physician and further trained intensive care physician, and is responsible for various prospective and randomized intensive care studies (including IITs).

In 2011 he received his doctorate at the neurological clinic of Prof. Dr. medical dr hc Stefan Schwab already on the subject of hemorrhagic stroke and in the continuation of his scientific work, he has been able to achieve various high-ranking and overarching publications (~ 300 impact points) over the past few years, which led to his habilitation in 2018. His working group (clinical and experimental stroke research), headed together with Prof. Dr. dr Hagen B. Huttner, deals extensively with the treatment and pathogenesis of hemorrhagic strokes and productive national and international multi-center cooperation projects have been implemented.
