John W. Ragsdale, III, M.D., associate professor of community and family medicine, has been appointed chief of the Division of Family Medicine, effective Dec. 1, 2017. Ragsdale has served as interim division chief since early 2017 and as the Department of Community and Family Medicine’s vice chair for clinical services since 2014.

In an email to the department today, Anthony J. Viera, M.D., MPH, chair, said of the appointment: “Dr. Ragsdale is an exceptional family physician, passionate educator, and collaborative leader. He will bring the energy and dedication we need as we grow our family medicine clinical and educational programs over the next several years.”

Ragsdale joined the department in 2008 as a clinical associate and the director of women’s health at the Duke Family Medicine Center, then became medical director in 2012. He completed a fellowship in the Chancellor’s Clinical Leadership Program in 2012 and is core faculty for the Duke Family Medicine Residency Program.
