Professor John O’Brien has recently been appointed Cambridge’s first Chair in Old Age Psychiatry at the Department having spent much of his career investigating the biological basis of dementia and aging. Professor O’Brien is no stranger to Cambridge, having completed his undergraduate degree in Medical Sciences, carrying out his Part 2 in Experimental Psychology alongside Prof Trevor Robbins.

John moved to Oxford for his clinical training, and continued his training in Psychiatry at the Maudsley Hospital in London. After another stint in Cambridge, John went on to lecture psychiatry in Melbourne for two years before moving to Newcastle as a Senior Lecturer. John was appointed Professor in Newcastle before he moved back to Cambridge this month to take up the new Chair in Old Age Psychiatry.
