John Stuart Nelson MD, PhD

Dr. J. Stuart Nelson specializes in the surgical treatment of port-wine stains, hemangiomas and other vascular birthmarks. He has more than 20 years of experience treating such vascular malformations in patients of all ages and parts of the body. Nelson, who is medical director of the Beckman Laser Institute & Medical Clinic, developed the "Dynamic Cooling Device" used in conjunction with laser treatment of vascular birthmarks. The cooling device has been adapted to more than 15,000 laser devices worldwide, and has become the preferred method for treating vascular malformations. The advanced technology has made it possible to safely treat significantly more patients with disfiguring birthmarks, including infants and young children with highly sensitive skin.
