John Skinner graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and Diploma in Education in 1989 and a Bachelor of Arts Honours in Medical Geography from Macquarie University in 1990. He initially pursued a career in public health research and completed a Master in Public Health at The University of Sydney in 1995. For almost 20 years he worked in various roles related to public oral health policy and planning in the NSW Ministry of Health. He was Director of the Centre for Oral Health Strategy NSW from 2012 to 2018 and while in this role, he completed a PhD at The University of Sydney in the area of Population Oral Health in the School of Dentistry.
John has a national reputation in the field of public health policy, population oral health, and translating research into public policy. He was formerly Chair of the National Oral Health Plan Monitoring Group prior and also a member of the Australian Health Policy Collaboration’s (AHPC) working group on oral health. He is currently the Chair of the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare Dental Information Advisory Committee.
