Professor John Sandars is Professor in Medical Education in the Academic Unit of Medical Education, University of Sheffield. He served as Associate Professor in Medical Education at Leeds Institute of Medical Education (LIME), a leading institution of medical education in Europe. He was Associate Director for student support and his research has focused on the use of self-regulated learning to enhance student education.
Professor Sandars was academic lead for e-learning and was a core member of the team that developed the first UK online Masters in Population Health and he subsequently produced several e-learning programmes. He has a major research and development interest in e-Learning, and online learning networks and was a principal investigator for the European Union Framework 7 project – Learning layers. He is co-director of the ESCEL course at AMEE and Vice Chair of the AMEE e-learning committee.
