John C. Richmond MD

Dr. John C. Richmond, received the Massachusetts Orthopaedic Association’s highest recognition, Orthopaedist of the Year 2021. He was honored at the Association’s Annual Meeting on October 5, 2021, in Quincy, MA.

Dr. Richmond received the award for his distinguished service, contributions to patient care, and commitment and dedication to the teaching and practice of orthopedics. Presenting the award to him was his colleague, Thomas Wuerz, MD, who noted his decades of outstanding achievements, leadership, collegiality, and patient care. Dr. Richmond was recognized for his outstanding leadership in orthopedic sports medicine, his passion for teaching, his commitment to research, and most importantly for the compassionate care, he has provided his patients throughout the years.

An active researcher, surgical pioneer and role model to many, Dr. John C. Richmond is the Emeritus Chairman of Orthopaedic Surgery at New England Baptist Hospital (NEBH) where he previously served as Chairman of the Orthopaedics. He holds an academic appointment as a Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Tufts University School of Medicine and was the head team physician for the Tufts University Athletic Department for 25 years.

Dr. Richmond earned his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Tufts Medical Center.
