Dr. John R. Burton is a professor of medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. His areas of clinical expertise include geriatric medicine. Dr. Burton serves as the director of the Johns Hopkins Geriatric Education Center.
Dr. Burton earned his M.D. from McGill University Faculty of Medicine. He completed his residency at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. He performed a fellowship in nephrology at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Previously, Dr. Burton was director of the Division of Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology at Johns Hopkins. Major clinical programs began or were developed under his leadership, including Johns Hopkins Home-Based Medicine, Hospital at Home, Program for All-inclusive Care of the Elderly (PACE) and the Orthopedic-Geriatric Medicine Hip Fracture Service. The division honored his work by renaming the Johns Hopkins Care Center, built in 1991, as the John R. Burton Pavilion.
