Dr. Mantsch received his Ph.D. in pharmacology from Louisiana State University and post-doctoral training in the Laboratory of the Biology of Addictive Diseases at the Rockefeller University prior to joining the faculty in the Department of Biomedical Sciences in 2001. He is currently the Chair of the Department.
Dr. Mantsch’s research involves the preclinical study of
neuropsychiatric disease with a focus on understanding the neurobiological underpinnings of addiction. He receives funding for his research from the National Institute on Drug Abuse and the National Center on Complementary and Alternative Medicine. Dr. Mantsch is also involved in CNS medication development and is a co-founder of Promentis Pharmaceuticals, a start-up pharmaceutical company that originated in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at Marquette.
