John is Director of Hepatology at Eastern Health; the largest geographical health region of Melbourne.

Having completed a Bachelor in Dental Surgery (BDS) at the Royal London Hospital in 1988 John spent a short period working in dental practice in Canvey Island. He was awarded Fellowship in Dental Surgery from The Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1992 and completed medical training at King’s College Hospital London in 1996. John has completed physician training in UK (MRCP) and Australia (FRACP) and trained in gastroenterology at the Austin Hospital Liver transplant unit in Melbourne. He completed a PhD examining the role of the renin angiotensin system (RAS) in liver disease, was awarded a National Health and Research Council of Australia (NHMRC) scholarship and was awarded Young investigator of the year at the Australian National Gastroenterology conference in 2007. John returned to the UK as the Senior Clinical Fellow in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford in 2008 -2009 and then returned to Australia in the role of Director of Hepatology at Eastern Health.
