John Kinnear MBBCh, MSc, MBA, FRCA, FFICM, FAcadMEd, FHEA

John graduated from the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg in 1985 and trained in Paediatrics Obstetrics & Gynaecology before completing training as a specialist anaesthetist at the Barts & London School of Anaesthetics in 1998. He is a consultant in anaesthetics and intensive care medicine at Southend University Hospital in the UK.

He has a special interest in developing postgraduate medical education, with particular application to simulation-based education and global healthcare improvement. He co-designed and was the founding director of the high-fidelity simulation centre for the Postgraduate Medical Institute, and was formerly simulation lead for Health Education East of England. He is also Head of Programme for the Zambia MMed Anaesthesia programme based in Lusaka, which he designed specifically to address the high surgical mortality associated with anaesthesia in resource-challenged environments.
